The Virtually Invisible Edging Solution.
Advancements in technology have enabled Sage Doors to manufacture melamine doors with no glue line; using Sage Doors Invisedge, your doors will have a virtually seamless!
What is Invisedge? Invisedge
is a new edgebanding technology, in which the edge tape is melted directly to the edge
of the board. This eliminates the need for standard bonding agents such as glue to be used
to attached the edging to the board and enables us to manufacture doors with no ugly glue
Sage Doors has invested into the future by using the next generation of plastic edging – polypropylene (PP). The options in New Zealand till now have been PVC and ABS.
Polypropylene has many advantages over other options: it is more environmentally friendly, it shrinks less, is more chemical resistant, and - most importantly - is very colourfast:
- It is
friendly choice. Less energy is
required to manufacture PP and when incinerated, it produces water and carbon
is less shrinkage than with PVC or
- It is more
household chemicals and most laboratory chemicals, making it a durable choice for both domestic and
commercial environments. It also has a higher heat resistance.
MKT Alpha-Tape® PP invisedge is much
more colourfast than traditional PVC or ABS. It passed the 'Blue Wool Scale' test
with flying colours! The ‘Blue Wool Scale’ is a test in which researchers take two
identical samples, one of which is placed in the dark as a control, and the other experiences the
equivalent to years of sunlight over a three-month period. A standard Blue Wool Test
Card is placed under the same light conditions with the test samples. The amount of fading of the
sample is then evaluated by comparing it to the original sample. A rating between 0 and 8 is given
to each of the samples in the test. Zero means it has very poor colourfastness, while a rating of
eight means it is considered colourfast. Our edging is classified as being above 8, meaning that
your nice white edging will stay white and will not discolour over years of use. See the 'Technical
Data' for a graph.
MKT Alpha-Tape®PP Invisedge features a special functional layer, co-extruded with the tape at its manufacturing stage, which eliminates the need for standard bonding agents or glues to be used during the manufacturing. This functional layer is melted with high temperatures, directly bonding it to the panel. Thanks to the colour matching between the functional layer, the top layer of the edge banding and the panel, MKT Alpha-Tape®PP Invisedge provides a virtually invisible, homogeneous and seamless transition between face of the panel and the edge.
Sage Doors have chosen to follow the lead of Europe in using 1mm edging. Due to the superior edge bond, there is no advantage in durability to use a thicker edge.
Sage Doors offer a competitively priced cut and clash service for Invisedged doors and panels of varying thicknesses using 1mm MKT Alpha-Tape®PP lnvisedge.
